Manager, Engineering - Edge Delivery

The Engineering Manager will lead a group of engineers specializing in fetching and caching HTTP data on Fastly's network. This role will help guide the team to deliver high quality and high performance systems and work with other engineering managers to lead shared efforts. You will contribute to projects ranging from improving performance of the system to adding new features for users of Fastly's CDN.

This is a remote position, but the employee can work from one of our San Francisco, Portland, Denver, New York, or Canadian offices (working remotely until it is safe to return to our offices).

What You'll Do

  • Lead and represent the team building the Fastly service responsible for caching HTTP data
  • Guide the team on engineering practices to craft high quality systems
  • Use your expertise in software engineering to ensure high quality software is delivered incrementally
  • Work with your team to ensure the work is being broken down appropriately
  • Work closely with the teams developing edge compute, edge protocol termination, and control plane projects as well as the teams operating the fleet

What We're Looking For

  • 4-7 years of Software Engineering experience and 1-4 years of Engineering Management experience
  • Experience in distributed and highly available environments
  • Experience with different methods of engineering and knowing when to experiment with them
  • You have run engineering teams or have been a tech lead with strong people leadership skills
  • An excellent understanding of safe coding practices, and some awareness about the caution needed when using C
  • A working knowledge of Rust
  • An understanding of the basics of TCP, HTTP, and Unix Domain Sockets
  • Ability to participate in and help coordinate incident response and mitigation

  • Some familiarity with Python, Ruby, or Go

In accordance with applicable law, Fastly’s minimum base pay for this role if hired in Colorado is $135,000. Additionally, this role is eligible to participate in Fastly's equity plan. Final offer amount will be at the company’s sole discretion and determined by multiple factors, including years and depth of experience and expertise, location and other business considerations. Note that this role is available to candidates outside of Colorado and different minimum compensation may apply.
